The Chinese Foreign Ministry revealed on Monday that Wang Yi, the director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and Emmanuel Bonne, a diplomatic adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, discussed the two governments' "respective positions on the Ukraine issue, and agreed to continue to... create conditions for the start of a political settlement process."
Wang described Macron's visit to China in April as a "complete success," noting that Beijing appreciates the "independent diplomatic tradition" of France and pointing out that China and the European Union have "far more common interests than differences," the Chinese ministry said.
Meanwhile, Bonne said that Macron was "pleased with the results of his visit" and that Paris is willing to strengthen cooperation with Beijing. When it comes to global challenges, the two officials discussed cooperation between countries in the global North and South to "achieve more balanced and sustainable development," according to the Chinese foreign ministry.
