DUP leader: Johnson must prioritize Northern Ireland

Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) Sir Jeffrey Donaldson remarked on Saturday that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson should prioritize the tensions between the United Kingdom and the European Union over Northern Ireland over the controversy about the parties that allegedly took place at 10 Downing Street during the coronavirus-caused lockdown in 2020.

"You're our prime minister and if you want to build confidence, then do what other prime ministers did in the past, recognize that we have a serious problem here and instead of being focused on what's going on in Downing Street, be the prime minister the people need," he told Sky News. "We can't go on with the situation where serious problems like we have here in Northern Ireland are not getting the attention they deserve."

More recently, Northern Irish Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots unilaterally suspended the checks on food and agricultural products going from the rest of Britain to Northern Ireland in a move condemned by the EU. The High Court in Belfast later overruled Poots's decision. Meanwhile, Northern Irish First Minister Paul Givan resigned.
