Pentagon: US holds tests on hypersonic weapons

United States Pentagon announced Thursday that the US Army and Navy held three tests on hypersonic weapon component prototypes in efforts to advance the weaponry development.

The tests are reported to have been conducted successfully. The air-breathing hypersonic weapon is capable of speeds five times faster than the speed of sound.

The statement arrives following reports that China had tested its own hypersonic weapon, however, Beijing dismissed the rumors. Additionally, last month North Korea announced testing its anti-aircraft hypersonic missiles.
