British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said on Wednesday that replacing the current Prime Minister Liz Truss will not send a positive signal to markets. Speaking to Sky News, he expressed doubts that going through another leadership campaign "will either convince the British people that we're thinking about them rather than ourselves, or convince the markets to stay calm and ensure things like those bond yields and gilt yields start coming back down."
Cleverly also sought to reassure the public, stating that Truss and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt have "learned lessons from what happened previously" and "have a plan" following another high inflation reading. He promised that the chancellor will publish "a full package of measures" in his medium-term fiscal plan on Monday.
